The IVECO concern today is part of the FIAT group of companies, and is engaged in one of the leading activities of the Italian holding.

Having begun its development with the merger of three Italian companies - FIAT Veicoli Industriali, OM and Lancia Veicoli Speciali, the emerging concern did not stop and decided to include German automakers, which have been distinguished by the production of wear-resistant equipment from time immemorial.

The German plant Magirus Deutz, known even at that time (mid-70s) for the manufacture of powerful Magirus off-road trucks and special equipment, became such a manufacturer.

The next in line to join the IVECO concern was the French idea of comfort, which was then embodied by Unic, a manufacturer of trucks and construction equipment.

The merger of several companies at that time was like an explosion: equipment rapidly began to become cheaper.

The first problem that the concern had to cope with was overcoming the national traditions of car production and the transition to centralized management.

The solution was found: each of the former enterprises should do what it was doing before the merger.

The German company Magirus Deutz produced trucks for work in production and construction, as well as special equipment - the same work is now carried out by IVECO's subsidiary, IVECO Magirus in Germany.

The French company Unic was mainly engaged in the manufacture of engines: both for its own trucks and for other companies.

Today, in Burgundy, in the South of France, the Unic descendant builds almost by hand the high-performance Cursor engines that power the IVECO EuroTech, IVECO EuroStar and new IVECO Stralis truck tractors.

IVECO Group signs an agreement with the Chinese manufacturer of light trucks Nanjing Motor Co. regarding the IVECO Daily (IVECO Turbo Daily) truck series.

Since 1986, Astra Trucks is a part of IVECO.

After some time, another subsidiary of the IVECO concern, Koc Group, opens in Turkey.

And, finally, two more stars fall at the feet of IVECO - the Spanish truck and bus manufacturer Pegaso and the British truck manufacturer Seddon Atkinson Group.

The purchase of these enterprises made Iveco the fifth largest company in the international truck market.
